If you are worried about the security of your blog (and if you own a blog, you should be), then what steps should you be doing to secure it? First, it helps to understand the methods that hackers might be using to attack your blog.

There are different basic methods to attack your blog, these include vulnerabilities and brute force, but there are also other very simple attacks that can succeed. So, what are these attacks that you might be needing to protect yourself from?

The first is known weaknesses is WordPress. If someone has discovered a weakness in the security, then word spreads and quickly and hackers start using these to attack blogs around the world.

The next one is brute force. Write a simple piece of code that loops around and tries many different passwords against your blog’s logon form. Keep trying for long enough and they will succeed.

This statement sounds horrific, but you put the balance in your favour. In the end it will take so long to attack your blog that the hackers go elsewhere to get their joy and leave you alone.

On top of this be wary of phishing. Also, keyloggers can be used to track what you are typing and other security weaknesses, such as logging on away from home. Simple steps such as anti virus and using secure connections soon looks after these.

So, how do we protect blogs from these 2 major forms of attacks? Come back tomorrow, or follow the blog security tag.
