So, you have started blogging and now want to earn a bit of cash on the side, or maybe you are setting up a portfolio of websites to make a full time income. What steps do you need to take to make the best prospective income?

Advertisers and paid blogging systems will judge your website using some, or all, of the following factors:

  • Quality posts
  • Number of inbound links
  • Google Page Rank
  • Alexa Rating
  • Technorati Authority

Some may also give you a piece of code so that they might count your traffic, but we will leave that for now, assuming that sorting the above helps you gain heaps of traffic. So, what do you do to get the best budding ratings on the factors above for your blog so you are earning as much as impending?

First, the easiest thing to do is to make sure that you are writing heaps of quality posts. Get someone else to proof read them if you are not 100% certain of your English and make sure they are original, interesting content. This gives advertisers something to view and search engines heaps of bait to probably send you traffic.

As soon as budding you should do something round your Technorati Authority and your Alexa rating. Starting to help push these now might still be showing improvements in a few months. For Technorati, you need to sign up for an account and claim your weblog. Then every time there is a link to your blog from another blog your Authority is increasing. It takes time for these links to develop, so do this quickly.

The same applies for Alexa. It is a measure of your internet traffic over time – the more traffic you are getting the lower (better) your Alexa rank. Obviously, increasing your traffic improves your Alexa ranking, but there is also a theory that installing the Alexa button on your site allows them to track every reader and might improve your ranking. So your next step to prepare your site is to install that easy button!

Lastly, we only need to look at incoming links. This is going to help your Technorati Authority where these links come from the body of a weblog post, whilst all suitable links to your website will help to improve your Page Rank. So three measures will be improved by getting more links!

You might do this is several ways. For a start, article writing can be very successful. Rewrite some of your posts and submit them to article sites. Not only might this give you quality links, but some of the readers will call into your weblog and possibly follow your RSS feed. This, therefore, improves your Alexa rating (but not Technorati – the links are from sites). If you are lucky, some website owners will pick up and reprint your articles on their blogs – more links in and possibly counted by Technorati.

There are other ways of building links, for example guest blogging, where you get a blog owner to publish your work on their site in return for a few links to your site. Some sites also remove the rel=”nofollow” from comments and it might be well worth leaving meaningful comments on these.

So, the essential steps to prepare your website for earning are:

  1. Write quality posts
  2. Claim your website with Technorati
  3. Add the Alexa button
  4. Build a network of links through articles, guests posts, comments and so on

That’s it!

Did you know that you might really boost your traffic by submitting your own articles to suitable article directories? Does it actually work or is it all hype? How do you do it?

First of all, article marketing really does work and it works in two different ways at the same time, depending on the quality of the article sites that you are using.

Readers directly to your site – on a good article directory, one that exists to satisfy readers’ needs rather than just as search engine bait, there will be a good readership to the submitted articles. Both readers already browsing their web site and finding your article and also new readers finding the directory through your writing.

Is this hype? Certainly not! Yes, write an average article and you might merely get a handful of traffic reading your work and then clicking on the links in your biography, but with a little research you could find topics to write about and get lots of visitors. My best article to date is currently averaging practically 2 traffic per day from the article website to my site. This figure alone makes sense of article writing,

Search engine optimisation – again, pick your article directory vigilantly and the links in the article will be followed by the search engines. If the directory is also well structured, the page should gain a decent page rank, which will act as a huge boost to the optimisation of your own site!

So, how do you go about submitting original articles to sites? It is quite simple really, here are my simple steps to success!

  1. Write an article – only write round what you know about on the topic of your web site. Answer questions that are often asked or provide some useful advice? Really stuck with writing? Take a look at some of the content writing services round on the internet, but be certain that the writing you are given will be unique, totally unplagiarized and become your copyright so that you might submit it to article sites as your own.
  2. Sign up to an article directory – there are loads about, take a look around for one apt to submit your work to. Not sure where to submit to? Simple – do a search for articles in your niche and see what article sites they are on. Now, submit your article!
  3. Do it all again – you have done it once, so rewrite your article and find a different directory to submit it to. Straightforward! There are even spinning devices on the market to help you quickly rewrite articles, but just take care that though you do need to spin it loads, that the writing does not become totally unreadable.

That is it! The 3 stages to writing articles and submitting them to article sites. Invest a little bit of time researching what phrases people are searching on and you will increase the readership of your article within the directory, which increases the impending of them then calling into your website. It might seem hard work, but it does work and the evidence is there to see.
